It is amazing to think that it was only June 29th 2007 when the Apple iPhone hit the market. It will be 10 years in 2017.
As technology has continued to evolve and just about every single working person on the planet has a smart phone it was only a matter of time before inductions were made available on a mobile phone.
Every day I hear people talk about the delivery of the induction and the issues associated with a contractor turning up on site that has not completed the induction prior to arrival. Having the ability to email an induction is wonderful. What if the contractor does not complete the induction that was sent by email prior to arriving on site? What are your options? What can you do when the contractor turns up?
You could do one of the following….
1 – send the contractor away because he has not completed the induction as requested off site. What if the contractor is an electrician and he has come to fix an electrical fault in your production line that is currently down costing $10,000 an hour for every hour the production line is down?
2 – sit the contractor down at a dedicated induction computer so they can complete the induction then they can fix the electrical fault and your production line can get up and running. Many companies do not have the room or budget to create a dedicated room just for inductions.
3 – you can send the induction to the contractor on his mobile phone where he can compete the induction prior to starting work. This option is now real and allows companies to provide less resources while assisting to keep the workforce compliant.
As soon as the contractor has completed your induction the results will automatically go against the contractor profile creating an induction certificate indicating if the contractor has passed or failed the induction. The contractor can now sign in their presence on site and will not trigger any denial of access warnings due to an incomplete or out of date induction.
If your inductions are manual or restricted to a computer it is time to move to a modern induction system. Start sending out your inductions to mobile phones next week!!!
