You never want to assume that your contractors or you employees are failing to look after your best interests. But, the reality is not everyone has the same moral compass. You don’t want to go too “Big Brother” on visitors and make them feel like the are criminals, but you can keep records that help you restrict the opportunity to steal.
Particularly in the world of construction, many materials are worth a significant amount of money. Visitor management systems reduce theft because:
- Employees and contractors are accountable for their time – whether these individuals are trying to be paid for hours they didn’t actually work, or they have taken supplies, you know exactly when they left the premises. Before throwing around any accusations, check these records.
- You have names and contact information for all the people on the site – when visitors know they are fully registered and you know how to track them down after they leave, they are more likely to be on their best behaviour.
- People can’t just walk in – there is no option for just anyone to enter a site when a system is put in place with limitations. All the people on the site, including visitors, would have had to sign in and have approval to be there. There are no strangers present, ever!
