When you have visitors on a busy job site, it can be important to ensure that they are properly identified so that other employees are aware of who they are. When visitors are identifiable from trained staff and contractors, there is increased safety. So what can you do to ensure that visitors are well-identified?
- Use visitor passes – ensure that visitors wear passes clearly displayed that identify their role on the job site. You can use different coloured passes for visitors with different levels of experience on construction sites. Those that are not familiar with the environment should be treated with extra caution.
- Use different coloured hard hats – simply having visitors identified with hard hats of a different colour on the site can ensure that other workers know that they are visitors with less experience.
- Send visitors with an escort – appoint someone on your staff that is responsible for escorting visitors. Not only does this increase safety, when other workers see individuals with this team member, they will be aware that someone who may not be familiar with site safety is present.
